Archaeology of Afghanistan has revealed many historical findings, particularly on the ancient civilizations present in Central Asia. The world's oldest-known oil paintings, dating to the 7th century AD, were found in caves in Afghanistan's Bamiyan Valley.[1]

Several sites of significance to the Kushan Empire have been discovered in Afghanistan.[2]
