Axwell and Ingrosso (stylised as Axwell Λ Ingrosso) is a Swedish DJ duo signed under Def Jam Recordings consisting of former Swedish House Mafia members Axwell and Sebastian Ingrosso.[1] They made their performance debut at the 2014 Governors Ball Music Festival in New York City in June.[2]

History

Pre-2014: Swedish House Mafia

Swedish House Mafia was a Swedish DJ trio consisting of disc jockeys and producers: Axwell, Steve Angello, and Sebastian Ingrosso. The group officially formed in late 2008. The supergroup placed at number ten on the DJ Magazine Top 100 DJ Poll 2011 and have been called "the faces of mainstream progressive house music." In the DJ Magazine Top 100 Poll 2012 they were ranked at number twelve. On 24 June 2012, the group announced via their website that they would split up after embarking on "One Last Tour," which ended at Ultra Miami 2013 on 24 March 2013.

2014–present

Axwell and Ingrosso formed the group Axwell Λ Ingrosso officially in 2014. During June of that year, the band gained prominence among New Yorkers when they began placing clues about their new album in various locations throughout the city.[3][4] The former Swedish House Mafia manager posted images of some of the clues on Instagram along with a post that shilled, "NYC. Let the games begin. Lines of a new song lie on your streets. Only sharing will make it grow. For everyone else who signed up we posted you your part :-)."[4] Ingrosso followed up with a Tweet stating, "watch your mail for post. If you didn’t sign up look on streets of NYC & together we’ll build a song."[4] Their first performance was in 2014 at the 8 June Governors Ball Music Festival in New York City.[2] The performance debuted music from a new album they announced to release under the name Axwell Λ Ingrosso the intro music of which premiered on air during Zane Lowe's BBC Radio 1 program.[1] Their performance was also named one of the 15 Hot Governors Ball Moments as well as one of the Top 10 Best Performances of the Hot Governors Ball by Billboard.[5][6] They also made an appearance at the 2014 V Festival.[7] The album is also said to be the first for both artists as Swedish House Mafia never released an official full-length album.[8] Axwell and Ingrosso also deleted their personal Facebook pages and created a single page for the group to signify the new partnership.[1] They recently toured India, as part of Sunburn Arena, where they engaged with the Indian audience. Axwell Λ Ingrosso released their first single "Can't Hold Us Down" and later that year released their next single "Something New" which was used for the new Beats advertisement. On 6 February, they launched a new online hub, and three new video trailers: "Something New", "Can't Hold Us Down" and "On My Way". Four days later, the Swedish duo dropped the video for "Something New". The videoclip takes the viewer on a motorcycle ride through an extended traffic jam in the desert. At the end, the two bikes disappear into the horizon. On 12 March 2015, the duo dropped their next new track, the anthemic "On My Way" which features vocals from Salem Al Fakir.[9] This was followed by a sequel video, directed by Christian Larson the next day which continued the story of the music video for 'On My Way'. This was the official music video for 'Can't Hold Us Down' [10] On 12 June 2015, they released a new song "Sun Is Shining". On YouTube, it hit 3 million views in one month. On 6 November 2015, the duo released their fifth single "This Time". All proceeds from the song will be donated to charity.[11] The instrumental for their new single "Dream Bigger" was released on 8 January 2016, with the vocal version being released on April 29 later that year.
