"Bad Boys"
Song
B-side"Dangerous"

"Bad Boys" is a song performed by The X Factor winner Alexandra Burke featuring rapper Flo Rida. It was released on 12 October 2009 in the United Kingdom[1] as the lead single from Burke's upcoming debut album Overcome. It was written by Larry Summerville Jr, Busbee, Lauren Evans and Alexander James[2] and produced by The Phantom Boyz.[3] The song premiered first on The Chris Moyles Show and then on other radio stations, including the Heart network, on 25 August 2009.[3][4]

Background and release

According to Popjustice, lyrically, "Bad Boys" is about "fancying dangerous men".[2] Calling the song "the opposite of a ballad", it has been named "highly danceable" and the chorus has been described to have a "strong melodic topline", with a "demented elasticated siren effect bouncing from speaker to speaker".[2]

The B-Side on the single, "Dangerous", is written by Hitesh Ceon, Kim Ofstad, Andrea Martin[5] and produced by new production team ELEMENT, best known for producing "Beggin'" with hip-hop group Madcon.[6]

Critical reception

Popjustice has called the song "phenomenal" and "literally amazing",[7] comparing it with "Womanizer" by Britney Spears and "Biology" by Girls Aloud.[2] Nick Levine from Digital Spy gave the single a very positive review, calling the song "a stomping electro-R&B tune with a chorus that grabs you on first listen [and] beats fat enough to rattle windows" and saying that "Bad Boys" has the "best outro of any pop single this year". He add:'Bad Boys' is so much fun it even pulls off a minor pop miracle - turning a Flo Rida cameo into a good thing.[8] He gave to the song 4 out of 5 stars.[9] Bill Lamb of About.com said that "Big international success seems a real possibility" and that "Bad Boys" reminded him of Donna Summer.[10]

Music video

The music video was filmed in Los Angeles on 31 August and 1 September 2009 and was directed by Bryan Barber.[11] Clips of the video leaked to the video sharing website YouTube show various nightime scenes filmed outdoors in such locations as back streets, deserted parking lots and bridges.[1][12] The video premiered on Sunday 20 September 2009 at 2:15am on ITV2.[13][14]

The music video shows Alexandra at her car which has broken down. Flo Rida begins the song with his intro while Alexandra tries to phone for help with no success. She then starts her verse by walking and turning back for a second then walking again while men dance towards her. The chorus brakes out with her dancing with the men and then walking away. She then goes into a underground pub and starts the second verse, which she then dances. The chorus shows her dancing in the pub; Then Flo Rida's rap shows him stood outside of the pub stood against the wall. Inside the pub is shown during his rap where the men are fighting and Alex is performing stunts. The song then stops after Flo Rida's verse where Alex kicks the door open, passing Flo Rida. The song then continues where Alex dances in an open space with the men. The video ends with Alex walking away while the dancers quicky jump to the ground. Throughout the video, Alex can be seen in a room with a man in the background while she is singing wearing the dress on the official Overcome album cover.
