Banana Yaya (born 29 July 1991) is a Cameroonian professional football player who plays as a central defence or as a right back for Panionios on loan from Olympiacos.[1] He weighs in at 108 kg and is 1.92m tall.

Career

In June 2009, Yaya signed with Tunisian Top Club Espérance Sportive de Tunis where he started his professional playing career.[2] He signed for Sochaux from Espérance Tunis on 17 January 2012.[3]

Yaya was sent on loan to Swiss club Lausanne-Sport for the 2013-14 season.[4] On 30 July 2014, he signed for Superleague side Platanias for an undisclosed fee.[5] He immediately became the undisputed leader of the club's defense.

On 19 October 2016, it seems that the Cameroonian international central defender has attracted interest from Turkey ahead of the January transfer season. The current contract of the 23-year-old international expires at summer of 2017 and the administration of cretan club would be extremely interested in extending it or selling him immediately, in order to make an important profit and strengthen the team's squad. On 23 June 2017, after the end of his contract with Platanias, he joined Panionios, remaining to the Superleague.[6] On 17 August 2018, two weeks before the closure of summer transfer window, the Cameroonian international central defender is expected to return to Panionios ahead of 2018-19 season, on loan from Olympiakos, as he is not in the plans of Olympiacos coach Pedro Martins. Eventually Panionios announced the signing of the international central defender for a long-season contract on loan from Olympiakos.[7]

International career

Yaya made his debut for Cameroon starting against Thailand in a friendly match in March 2015.[8]
