Critical reception
Billy Dukes of Taste of Country gave the song four stars out of five, writing that it is "sassy and sexy without being too risque for a teenager. It’s flirty, but not Snooki-level flirty. Most importantly the uptemo, pop-country track is a ton of fun."[4] Matt Bjorke of Roughstock gave the song four stars out of five, saying that it "has a lot of attitude but not so much that Lauren loses any sense of that charming cuteness that brought her to the forefront in the place."[5]

"Barefoot and Buckwild" debuted at number 34 on the U.S. Billboard Hot Country Songs chart for the week of May 25, 2013.
