The Basic Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation is an agreement between Australia and Japan (Nippon) to enhance relations between the two countries mostly in trade but also social and cultural factors. It was an important stepping stone in post-World War II relations.

The treaty, signed in 1976, was originally known as the Nippon-Australia Relations Agreement (NARA)[1]
