The Bengalee was a three masted barque displacing 304 (or 354) tons, owned by Hamlin and Company, Greenock. It was principally used as a supply ship, although it did carry human cargo also. It was built in 1837 at Dumbarton.

Captain Thomas Hamlin did not allow the consumption of alcohol on his ship, thus it was known as a temperance ship.
