Bonnie Kathleen Wright (born February 17, 1991) is an English actress, best known for her role in the Harry Potter films as Ginny Weasley.[2]

Biography

Early life

Bonnie Wright was born in London to Sheila Teague and Gary Wright, two jewellery designers who together run their own company, Wright & Teague. She has an older brother named Lewis.[3] Wright attends The King Alfred School in London, England.[4]

Wright enjoys dance, art, travelling, and playing musical instruments like the piano, guitar, saxophone, harmonica, and recorder, as well as sports such as football, swimming, tennis, riding, ice skating, surfing, ringette, cycling, and athletics.[5][6]

Career

Wright was originally cast as Ginny Weasley for a small scene in the first film, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (2001), set at King's Cross Station. Her role became more prominent with the second movie, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002), in which her character begins studies at Hogwarts while dealing with a very powerful secret diary that begins to seize her soul and consciousness. Wright's role in the third film, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004), was significantly smaller, leaving her with only one line of dialogue. However, the character became a more important supporting character in the fourth and fifth films, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. Wright is currently set to reprise her role in the next film, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, where her character plays a leading role as Harry's main love interest. Wright is friends with fellow actress Gillian Maguire. On the Harry Potter set Wright became very good friends with co-stars Katie Leung who plays Cho Chang, Evanna Lynch who plays Luna Lovegood, Afshan Azad, who plays Padma Patil, and Emma Watson, who plays Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter movies.

Wright has also starred in two television movies: 2002's Stranded and 2004's Agatha Christie: A Life in Pictures playing the younger version of Agatha Christie.[7]

Recently Bonnie was a guest on Disney's The Replacements voicing Vanessa in season two opener 'London Calling'.
