Bracknell Town Football Club are a football club based in Bracknell, Berkshire, England. The club was formed in 1896. The club is affiliated to the Berks & Bucks Football Association.[1] The clubs nickname is The Robins.[2] They currently play in the Hellenic League Premier Division.

History

Bracknell Town Football Club was formed in 1896 as Old Bracknell Wanderers and changed its name to Bracknell F.C. in 1949.[3][4] The club played in the local leagues until joining the Great Western League for the 1958–59 campaign.[5] After four seasons in this league, and renaming the club Bracknell Town in 1962, the club was elected to the Surrey Senior League, which they won in 1969–70.[4][6] The club also won the league cup in 1968–69 and 1969–70.[3] After this success the club entered the Spartan League (later renamed the London Spartan League) and finished runners-up on goal average in 1975–76, in which they also reached the Fifth Round of the FA Vase.[7]

After winning the London Spartan league in 1982–83, they joined the Isthmian League Division Two South after the 1983–84 season.[7] They were promoted to Division One as runners-up in 1985–86, finishing third in their highest ever league placing.[8] However, in 1988–89, Bracknell Town was relegated and, following a reorganisation of the Isthmian League, were in Division Three in 1991–92.[7] They returned to the Isthmian League Division Two after winning the league in 1993–94, but after five seasons were relegated back down to Division Three.[9][10] After another league reorganisation in 2002–03, the club was moved into the Isthmian League Division One South, but moved to the Southern Football League Division One West after two seasons.[7] Bracknell were reprieved from relegation in 2008–09, when Winchester City F.C. were deducted three points saving the club on goal difference.[11][12] However, despite the reprieve the club could not save themselves from relegation to the Hellenic Football League Premier Division at the end of the 2009–10 season.[13]

The club then spent two seasons in the Hellenic premier Division before being relegated to Division One east at the end of the 2011–12 season.[14] Bracknell Town after being relegated then employed management duo of Steve Nebbett and Danny Oliphant in May 2012.[15]

Stadium

Bracknell play at Larges Lane football stadium, Bracknell, RG12 9AN.

They previously played at Downshire Arms and later on a ground in the location of Ranelagh School.[4] The club moved to Larges Lane in the 1930s, and a clubhouse was added in the 1960s.[16] Extra covering was added in 1994 in order to pass Isthmian League ground standards, which was later named the Quinton Stand after late club president Jack Quinton.[16]

Colours

Bracknell's home kit is red with white accent shirts, and red shorts and socks.[17]
