The Bureau of Investigation (BI) is a law enforcement bureau of California's Office of the Attorney General that provides expert investigative services to assist local, state and federal agencies in major criminal investigations ranging across the state. It was created on February 17, 2012.[1] It was formed from parts of the previously existing Bureau of Investigation and Intelligence and other state law enforcement departments.

In fiction

A fictional agency named the California Bureau of Investigation is featured in the TV series The Mentalist. A real agency with that name formerly existed but was reorganized and renamed in 2009.
