Early life

Mintz-Plasse was born in Los Angeles, the son of Ellen Mintz, a school counselor, and Ray Plasse, a mailman.[1][2] Mintz-Plasse is Jewish[3] and was raised in West Hills, California. He attended El Camino Real High School from 2003 to 2007, and was tutored on the set of Superbad.

Mintz-Plasse acted in drama classes from the first grade until his senior year in high school, before appearing in Superbad. He was cast in the role of Fogell (McLovin), after auditioning with two high school friends.[4] He had no professional head shots before the audition and just took a head shot with his camera phone.[5] His mother was required by law to be on set while filming his sex scene in Superbad because he was only 17 years old at the time of filming.[6][7]

In 2008, he had a cameo on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, singing in the chorus during the segment "I'm Fucking Ben Affleck". He also appeared in Internet PSAs for voting and for Night of Too Many Stars. In a YouTube video, called the "Teabag Incident", he and his friends illustrate the dangers of teabagging. The video has been watched by fewer than 60,000 people. He also presented the best hip-hop video award with Slipknot at the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards.

Mintz-Plasse next appeared opposite Paul Rudd and Seann William Scott in the David Wain film Role Models, and performed voiceover work for the animated film How to Train Your Dragon. In April 2010, he appeared in Kick Ass as the supervillan Red Mist, a.k.a. Chris D'Amico.[8] In May 2010, he guest-starred in an episode of Party Down as Kent, a friend of the character Roman.[9]

In 2010, he had a cameo in a Kid Cudi music video, "Erase Me", with Kanye West.

In 2011, Mintz-Plasse appeared in the remake of the 1985 film Fright Night as Evil Ed.[10]
