Cryptoheros is a small genus of cichlid fishes from Central America and southeast Mexico. The genus currently contains 9 species. It includes species formerly included within the genus Archocentrus.[1] The convict cichlid has sometimes been placed within the genus Cryptoheros as well, but is now considered a member of the genus Amatitlania.[2]

- Cryptoheros myrnae (Loiselle, 1997) (Topaz cichlid), Atlantic side of Panama to Costa Rica
- Cryptoheros nanoluteus (Allgayer, 1994), Panama
- Cryptoheros panamensis (Meek & Hildebrand, 1913), Atlantic side of Panama
- Cryptoheros sajica (W. A. Bussing, 1974) (T-bar cichlid), Atlantic side of Costa Rica
- Cryptoheros septemfasciatus (Regan, 1908), Costa Rica
- Cryptoheros spilurus (Günther, 1862) (Blue-eye cichlid), Lake Izabal drainage in Guatemala
