DeKalb High School is a public high school in Waterloo, Indiana. Established in 1967, It is part of the DeKalb Central United School District. The school is just south of Waterloo, but the majority of its students come from the Auburn area. It shares a campus with DeKalb Middle School and the School District's Office. It is the largest School in northeastern Indiana outside of Allen County.

Athletics

The teams at DeKalb are nicknamed the Barons. School colors are red and black. They play in the Northeast Eight Conference. The Barons have won two state championships. The first was in baseball in 1980 and the second was in football (class 4A) in 1986. They were also state runners-up in football (class 4A) in 1994 and basketball (class 4A) in 2003. Other successful athletic teams include golf, tennis, cross country, track and field, wrestling, and soccer. The girls golf team has qualified for state the last 4 years and completed their season undefeated.

Music Department

DeKalb’s music department is consistently recognized by the state for its achievements. The “Baron Brigade” marching band, currently under the direction of Terry Fisher, has been to the Indiana Marching Band State Finals nineteen times starting in 1985. Their highest place is fifth in 1992. The department also offers Concert Band, Symphonic Band, and a Jazz Band. The choir, under the direction of Shelley Johnson, have competed in show choir invitationals nationwide. “Classic Connection”, the mixed choir and “Sound Sensation,” the girls choir, have qualified for ISSMA State Finals every year since the contest's inception in 2005. Both Classic Connection and Sound Sensation were crowned State Champions in 2009, 2010, 2011 in their respective divisions. Classic Connection has since earned the title in their division in 2013. The department’s percussionists won the Indiana Percussion Association State Championship in 2008 (class A), and placed sixth in 2009. The band and the choir host invitationals. The marching band invitational is in September and the show choir invitational is in February.
