De La Salle College Caringbah is a Lasallian Secondary High School catering for boys in years 7–10, located in Caringbah, a suburb in the south of Sydney, Australia. Established in 1958 by the De La Salle Brothers, the College Currently caters for over 540 students, with numbers set to increase massively in 2015. The current Principal is Mr. Christopher Agnew and Assistant Principal Peter Halpin. De La Salle Caringbah is one of 18 Lasallian schools in Australia. De La Salle Caringbah caters for boys in years 7- 10.

History

De La Salle Caringbah was established in 1958 as a Years 5–10 Boys school and eventually settled to educate year 7–10 boys alongside Our Lady of Mercy College, Burraneer Bay and De La Salle College, Cronulla. It was founded after there was thought to be a need for a Catholic Boys High School in the area. On the 28th of January 1958, 65 students began the first class in the basement of the old Our Lady of Fatima Church. By 1963 the current college building was built after a great deal of hard work from parishioners.

Reward and punishment

At De la Salle College Caringbah, there are rewards for good behaviour and punishments for bad behaviour.

  • Merits are issued for good behaviour in class,
  • When students receive 25 merits, a bronze certificate is issued
  • When students receive 75 merits, a silver certificate is issued
  • When students receive 125 merits, a gold certificate is issued
  • When students receive 200 merits, a pen is issued
  • When students receive 275 merits, a badge is issued
  • When students receive 375 merits, a plaque is issued
  • When students receive 475 merits, a voucher is issued

Demerits & Detentions

  • Demerits are issued for misbehaviour during class and on the playground
  • Detentions are issued for receiving three demerits in a week. Detentions last for 40 minutes after school.
  • An automatic detention is given to students for doing any of the following; throwing food, playing computer games in class, refuse to hand up diary or are out of bounds.

Detentions

  • Same-day-detention- up to 3.10pm to rectify a minor issue (this is a responsibility of a class teacher.)
  • Formal Weekly Detention- after school on Tuesday from 2.50-3.30pm.
  • Sport Detention- on Friday from 12.35-2.30pm for poor behaviour during sport the previous week.
  • Year Coordinator or Assistant Principal Detention- for more serious matters. Such detentions will last for one hour after school on any day of the week and they will be communicated to parents via a formal letter.
