Derawal

Derawal ( Punjabi, Urdu: ڈیریوال, Hindi: डेरावाल) are a community of people who originated from the Derajat i.e. Dera Ghazi Khan and Dera Ismail Khan region which is now in Pakistan. This region includes the districts of Dera Ghazi Khan, Dera Ismail Khan, Rajanpur and Tank, while The latter two districts were carved out of the two Deras, respectively, in later periods. The Hindu and Sikh Derawals migrated to India at the time of the partition of India in 1947 which can be found in Derawal Nagar, Delhi, while the Muslims stayed in Pakistan. Derawals have their own dialect of Saraiki called Derawali dialect and their own traditions. There are several regional and national Derawal organizations in India today.
