Devesh is a rare Hindu name.

Etymology

According to Hindi grammar , the name "Devesh" is composed(sandhi) of two words "Dev" and "Esh".

Dev + Esh = Devesh[1]
Dev (देव in Devanagari script, pronounced [ˈdeːʋə]) ) is theSanskrit word for "God, deity".
Esh (ईश in Devanagari script)is also a Sanskrit word for king,Head, Leader who worshiped
as Eshwar(God).

Meaning

The Bhagwad Gita definitively establishes the meaning of the name Devesh. The literal meaning remains "Lord of the Gods", but is used to address Sri Krishna in his form as Vishvarupa [1]. The actual reference to the meaning occurs in the Bhagwad Gita chapter 11, verse number 25, where Arjuna addresses Sri Krishna by this name. [2]

An inaccurate meaning of the name Devesh is "God's god" means Shiva[2].[3]
This is contrary to the popular belief that Devesh means Indra

Both of the above meanings are contrary to the scriptures.

Naming Culture

As Esh's meaning in sanskrit is king,Head, Leader who worshiped as Eshwar(God). Probably this belief arises from the fact that many Hindu names that end with "Esh or Ish" actually refer to God.
