"Aasa Kooda" is a song by Indian Tamil-language singer, composer and producer Sai Abhyankkar, who sung the song along with his sister, Sai Smirti. It is Abhyankkar's second single after "Katchi Sera". The track, written by Sathyan Ilanko, was released under the record label, Think Indie on 13 June 2024 globally, entering at the 15th place in the Global Top 100 Music Videos Chart on YouTube, marking the first Tamil independent music to reach so, and peaked at 1st in the Apple Music chart, ITunes chart and Radio chart and 2nd in the Bilboard chart.[1]

Background
[edit]"Aasa Kooda" is Abhyankkar's second single, after making his debut to the music industry with "Katchi Sera", which became a sensational hit and globally viral. He sung the song along with his older sister, Sai Smirti, who made her singing debut with this track although she hummed the introduction part of "Katchi Sera".[2] The lyrics were written by Sathyan Ilanko, in his first song as well. It featured backing vocals by Srinidhi Premkumar, Faik, Shiva and Elisa, electric guitars played by Keba Jeremiah, who also played the bass guitar, and Robin Sebastian, sax and clarined by Ashish, nadaswaram by Parthiban, mandolin by Viswas Hari and trumpet by John, Henry Park, H. Warner, and Ben.[3]
Music video
[edit]The music video, which released along with the track on 13 June 2024, was directed by Thejo Bharathwaj. It starred Abhyankkar, alongside Preity Mukhundhan as his pair. The cinematography was handled by Vijay Kartik Kannan, with the costume design being handled by Shruti Manjari, dance choreography by Anusha Vishwananthan and art direction by Pradeep Raj N.[3]
Other versions
[edit]A Lo-fi version of "Aasa Kooda" was composed by Jathusanan Ellankovan and was released, as "Aasa Kooda (Lofi mix)", on 25 June 2024 through Spotify. Niranjan Nadarajan composed a Slap house mix of the track and released on 14 July as "Aasa Kooda (Slap house mix)".[4] The same day, a Dappankuthu version composed by Lohith Margo was released as "Aasa Kooda (kuthu mix)".[5]

"Aasa Kooda" reached ten charts within ten days since the track's release, which included Apple Music's Top 50 India and Spotify's Top Songs India.[7] The song peaked at the first place in the Apple Music chart, ITunes chart and Radio chart, while being at the 11th place in YouTube chart.[8]
