Adrien Re (b. March 25, 1968) is an American composer, performer, and educator. He was born in New Jersey, but has lived in Florida and Virginia, and currently resides in central North Carolina where he teaches at Wake Technical Community College and Campbell University[1]. He is known mostly for his work with jazz music but also performs and writes country music, pop music, and even commercial jingles.

Early life and education

[edit]

Growing up in New Jersey, Re was close to the extremely active music scenes in Pennsylvania and New York. Seeing his dad come home from his day job and immediately get ready for a gig was a formative memory for young Re. He also credits his elementary school band director, Gary Suabedissen with inspiring him to make a career out of music. Re was interested in arranging a piece called “Satin Doll” for jazz band, and reached out to Suabedissen for help. While this arrangement never made it beyond paper, Re was engaged and learned a lot about the process of arranging.

Re went to Hopewell Valley High School in Pennington, New Jersey. His high school had no shortage of musical ensembles including a string orchestra, in which Re played cello. Re was of course active in the jazz ensemble, playing saxophone. Other ensembles at Hopewell Valley High School at the time included multiple wind ensembles, and a musical theater pit, which was fully made up of students. Re has college degrees from The College of New Jersey, Florida Atlantic University, Ball State University, and Berklee College of Music.[2]

He also maintains a personal private studio in which he teaches woodwind lessons.

He has a fifth album in the works, a third installment of the Jazz Band Big series, called Jazz Band Big Goes to Mardi Gras.

Re is also a talented audio engineer, having produced several albums for private clients since he began offering such services.[4] He has produced albums in styles such as country, pop, and contemporary Christian music. He has also performed in jazz festivals across the world including the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland and the Vienna Jazz Festival.
