Aisultan Seit (Kazakh: Айсұлтан Арсенұлы Сейітов; born. 31 January 1997, Shymkent) is a Kazakh film and music video director.[1]
Biography
[edit]Seit graduated school from a Kazakh-Turkish Lyceum in Astana[2]. He finished New York Film Academy with a degree in filmmaking. During his time in university he shot short film The Jackal which he won the Best Director Award for, at the Hollywood Boulevard Film Festival in 2016[3][4].
Career
[edit]Seit's first ever directed music video was for the song "По ветру" Dzhaya Miyadzaki. Although, he likes to call his first official works to be "Janym sol" Moldanazar and an unreleased music video for Ninety One.
At the start of Seit's career, he mainly did work for Central Asian and Russian artists. The music video he directed for "Medina" Jah Khalib gained traction and became a big moment in Kazakh entertainment.
From 2019 on Seit moved to the international scene and directed videos for American artists like "A lot" 21 Savage, "Run" Joji and more.
In 2022 his debut feature film QAŞ was released and won an award at the Shanghai Film Festival. QAŞ was a significant change in artistry and picture for the Kazakh film industry.
Throughout the years, Seit built a team of talented filmmakers, producers and cinematographers known as QARA Studios. With the help of QARA, Seit remained close to music by working on projects like OYU, a YouTube channel showcasing up-and-coming, as well as, well-known Kazakh musicians. Annually OYU organises a large scoped music festival, OYU Fest around Kazakhstan.
