Austin Miller (born April 17, 1997 in Sioux Falls, SD) is a American middle-distance runner. He competes in events ranging from the 800 meters to the 5,000 meters. He attended the Washington High School in Sioux Falls, South Dakota and later competed on the collegiate level at Augustana University.[1]

High school[edit]

Miller was coached by Shane Reilly and competed in track and field for one season. Austin raced a personal best of 2:09 in the 800 meters. Miller also qualified for the State Championships as a member of the SMR 1600m, 4x400m, and 4x800m relays. Previous to track, Miller was a 3-time varsity-letter winner in soccer as an outside midfielder.

College[edit]

Miller was a walk-on at Augustana University in 2016. He ran for Tracy Hellman at Augustana University. He achieved personal bests of 1:48 in the 800 meters, 4:02 in the Mile Run, and 3:40 in the 1500 meters. In cross country, Miller was a three-time participant at the NCAA Men's Division II Cross Country Championship placing as high as 47th during his final cross country season at the 2021 NCAA Men's Division II Cross Country Championships with a time of 31:42 for 10,000 meters. In track and field, Austin was a 6-time Division II All-American and 2-time national runner up in the Mile Run and 1500 meters[2]

Professional[edit]

Miller turned professional in August 2022 as a member of Tinman Elite. In his inaugural season, Miller made headway as a US middle-distance runner, securing PBs of 3:39 in the 1500 meters and 3:57 in the Mile Run. He was the 2nd South Dakotan man to break 4 minutes in the mile and 674th American man to achieve this feat[3] . The notable victory of his first season came at the 2023 edition of the Millrose Games in the Men's International Mile.
