- TODO: move to pagename "Draft BUT Film Festival" (standard festival name spelling)
The BUT Film Festival (BUTFF) is an annual film festival held in Breda, Netherlands. BUT is derived from B-Movies, Underground and Trash.
The festival features some 50 filmscreenings, series of short films, and an adjacent programme with performances, art and music.[1]
Central location is Nieuwe Veste (main festival square, theater hall, two movie halls), side locations are Chassé Cinema (including analogue projections), and Breda Filmhuis.[2]
The festival grew out of niche and cult movie scenes: B-movies, underground movies (extreme by content or image, neglecting conventions), and trash movies (cheaply made, no talents required, amateuristic).[3][4]
Programme
[edit]Some guests of honour, and receiving the retrospective Award, were: Albert Pyun (2013), Jörg Buttgereit (2010), and John Waters (2009).
The festival also presents series of short films (circa 30, in 3 reels); a special Award is awarded.
Off-festival time there are side-programs ('Butplugged') and incidental screenings in theaters like Chassé Cinema (Breda)[5] and De Klappei (Antwerps).
