Location | Galicia, Spain |
Barra Beach is a dune-style beach located at the end of the Morrazo peninsula in the Vigo river at the opening of the Subrido point cape. It belongs to the autonomous region of pontevedrés within the Cangas de Morrazo seaside resort in Galicia, Spain.
It is part of some protected areas, belonging to the Natura 2000, the town of Cabo Home and the Coast of Vela and neighbors the Atlantic Islands national park.
Description
[edit]Below the village of Donón, surrounded by pine forests and dunes, the Barra Beach spreads out forming an excellent white sandy beach. To the west, it expands to the Subrido Point. On the east side, it continues with a small, rocky promontory that separates itself from the neighboring urban area, Viñó Beach, forming a continuous beach that opens unto a small cove which is its namesake, and houses an anchorage for the cruises which serve this area. After this, making to the north, it extends into a sandy area with a small grouping of pine trees, that ends with a large dune at its western-most area. To the south, the rivers end in the mouth of the Cies Islands, with which they are both similar.
Barra Beach is located at a height of 750 meters (2460.63 ft), with a width of 30 meters (98.43 ft). It is very windy here, also having cold waters and moderate waves. The occupancy limits are described as "Middle-High", as well as the beach allows nudity. The sand on this beach is white and fine, having occasional crustacean shells. This beach is low and flat, which is suitable for walking. The beach also has variable tides, which provides different experiences at different times of the day.
Barra Cove is formed between Creixiña, Corveiro dos Castros and Subrido or Fuxiño points. All of these form part of the small peninsula of Cabo Home, which is the end of the Vigo river at its north end. They compose the Barra, Viñóm, Nerga, and the small A Nova cove.
Access Points
[edit]The beach is accessible via road PE-1006, which connects Cangas del Morrazo with the village of Odón, detouring along the Rúa de baixada to Viño until a parking lot at the very edge of the protected dune area. From there, by foot, you can walk to the beach. There are many trails to walk that leads to the beach, with which you can enjoy the pines that have grown throughout the dune belt of the beach.
