Binod Ghoshal (Hindi: বিনোদ ঘোষাল) (Born: 28 February 1976 Konnagar, Hooghly) an Indian writer. He is a Bengali writer who won Sahitya Akademi Yuva Puraskar Award in 2011.[1]

Literary work[edit]

Binod Ghoshal was born in Navagram village panchayat area at Konnagar in Hooghly district of West Bengal. Father's name is Krishna Gopal Ghoshal and mother's name is Archana Ghoshal. Growing up with the nature of fields, ponds, jungles from small. Father was Param Vaishnava, Sri Krishna-Chaitanya Antapran. The companionship of a homely father made him attracted to art and literature from a very young age. Painting, and acting were his innate talents. He started his career at a young age to take care of the family after his father passed away due to a terminal illness. But did not settle for any job. Sometimes as a private tutor, sometimes as a bookkeeper on a mattress in Barabazar, as a supervisor in a biscuit factory, as an accountant in an industrialist's house, as an accountant in a corporate house, as a journalist in a newspaper. Along with these literary discussions were going on. After getting involved in many different jobs for earning money, he gave up everything and finally took up writing as his only profession. His writings include short stories, novels, features, plays, film criticism. The first story written by Vinod Ghosal in Desh Patrika was published in 2003.[2] The story has a special response among the readers. Since then he started writing regularly.[3] His first novel written by Madha Rasta Akhla was published in 2013.[4] Several of his short stories have been dramatized on stage and on radio. A film has been made based on his novel. His short stories have been translated into several languages. His long novel Ke Bajaye Banshi, based on the entire life of Kazi Nazrul Islam, is recognized as a significant work.[5][6][7]

Awards and honors[edit]

Binod Ghoshal received the Central Yuva Puraskar Youth Award in 2011 for his book Danaola Manoos.[8][9] In 2014 he new story 25[10][11] West Bengal received the Somen Chand Smriti Award of Bangla Academy for the book.[12] He has also been honored with Purva Bharat Award, Mitra and Ghosh Memorial Award, Bijan Bhattacharya Memorial Award, Shailjananda Award. Received 'Best Literary 2020 from Hon'ble Governor on behalf of Sunday Times Kolkata. Bengali writers have participated as representatives in many national and international literary festivals of the country.[13] In 2016, he joined the 'Writers in Residence Programme' at Rashtrapati Bhavan on the invitation of the Hon'ble President of India. Received fellowship from Ministry of Culture, India.[3][14]
