Bol Sözlük is a collaborative hypertext dictionary in Turkish based on the concept of web sites built up on user contribution and Bol Sözlük also represents an underground hiphop music label[1] which releases rap songs and creates content for hip-hop culture.
In terms of its concept, Bol Sözlük was inspired by another Turkish website, Ekşi Sözlük. Bol Sözlük is currently one of the largest online Turkish hip-hop communities in Turkey with over 5,250 registered users.[2] The number of writers is about 2,750. As an online platform, Bol Sözlük is mostly utilized by thousands for information sharing on hiphop culture related topics. Bol Sözlük has been mentioned a lot in the Turkish media within all these aspects. [3] [4] [5] [6]
History
[edit]Following the shutdown of the first collaborative Turkish hip-hop dictionary YO Sözlük, Turkish underground hiphop community founded Bol Sözlük.[7]
In addition to being web site, Bol Sözlük has become a underground content producer label on YouTube that publishes informative content, educational videos and interviews about hip-hop. [8]
At the same time, Bol Sözlük established an underground hip-hop label identity and a brand which many amateur rappers can announce and share their songs to the public.[1]
Bol Sözlük helped keep the Turkish underground hip-hop culture alive with its members and with community meetings around the world.
Bol Sözlük has become the most reputable source for hip-hop and Turkish rap, containing nearly 435,000 entries related with more than 50,000 different topics with the participation of active users. According to the latest data of web statistics platforms Bol Sözlük is the most hit hip-hop site in Turkey and it has 98,500 visits monthly.[9]
