From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

BombSquad is a physics-based single-player and multiplayer party game developed by Eric Froemling. it was initially developed in 2004 before being briefly shelved and then finally released for Mac devices on October 24, 2011[1], and then subsequently ported to Android on September 15 2014[2], it's also available for operating systems such as Windows and Linux for testing purposes. The game is partially open source[3][4], and has support for controllers and cross-platform play.

Gameplay

[edit]

The game features a campaign for single-player and multiplayer co-op, and a series of free-for-all and team-based minigames for multiplayer. When entering a level, the player is given a character with the ability to run, jump, punch, grab players/interactibles, and throw bombs. The game heavily focuses on physics for its mechanics, such as using momentum to deal damage from punches, throwing bombs, etc. Players would need to perform certain actions such as spinning and running in order to maximize damage from punches, or to maximize range from throwing bombs. Players can also customize the minigames to their liking. The game also supports modding, community servers, and a rotating tournaments for specific minigames.

Local Server

Local servers are a critical option for those who want to play with friends in a nearby physical environment. This type of server allows multiple devices to be connected over a local network, such as Wi-Fi or LAN, which means that all players must be connected to the same network to participate in the game.

The main advantage of local servers is low latency and connection stability, ensuring a smooth and uninterrupted gaming experience. It's perfect for social gatherings, where players can enjoy the chaos and fun of BombSquad in the same room. In addition, these servers do not require an internet connection, making them ideal for situations where global network access is limited or unwanted.

Public Server

The public servers are accessible to any BombSquad player who wants to join an online match. These servers are usually open to everyone, which means you don't need an invitation or password to participate. Most public servers offer a standard gaming experience, with common game modes such as "free-for-all" and "teams" modes, including minigames like "capture the flag" or "king of the hill."

However, it is also common to find public servers with custom configurations, created by the gaming community. These settings can include special rules, difficulty adjustments, or even modifications to game mechanics through custom scripts. Public servers are ideal for those looking for a quick and easy-to-find match, as well as being a great way to meet and play with people from all over the world.

Private Server

Private servers offer a more controlled and exclusive gaming experience. To join a private server, a password is required which must be provided by the server creator. This allows only a select group of players to participate in the game, which is perfect for games with friends, tournaments, or special events organized by specific communities or groups.

The configuration of these servers can be as standard or customized as the administrator wishes. In addition, server privacy ensures that players can enjoy the game without interruptions from outsiders, maintaining a more intimate atmosphere and focused on the group experience.

Custom Server

Custom servers are where BombSquad really shines in terms of creativity and diversity of experiences. These servers allow administrators to adjust a wide variety of settings ranging from basic game rules to implementing advanced scripts that can modify game mechanics in surprising ways.

For example, some custom servers may include entirely new, community-designed game modes that are not available in the standard version of the game. Others may modify physics, introduce new item types, or even change the appearance and abilities of "Mod" characters. These servers are very popular with players who are looking for more than just the standard experience and want to explore new ways to play BombSquad.

Official Server

The official servers are managed directly by the developers of BombSquad and are designed to offer a balanced and stable gaming experience. Often, these servers follow the standard rules and game modes that come by default in BombSquad, providing an environment where players can enjoy a consistent and hassle-free gaming experience.

Due to their direct maintenance by developers, these servers are usually the most reliable in terms of stability and performance. They are an excellent choice for players who prefer to play in a well-regulated environment, without the surprises that can sometimes accompany custom servers.
