Burnett went to the University of Texas at Austin in the 1920's and 30's. He graduated the University of Texas at Austin in 1927 with a Bachelor of Business Administration and in 1933 with a Bachelor of Law.[1] Despite that, he later became a professional musician and teacher.
Music Life[edit]
Burnett became an assistant band director 131 USAF, 36th division during World War I.[2] After the war, he became the band director of the University of Texas at Austin. He was the director from 1917 to 1937. During his carrier at the University of Texas at Austin, penned the lyrics to Texas Fight, and they are now used by the University.[3]

Burnett had a wife, Gladys Wornell, and two daughters, Gladys Marion Pharr and Patricia Merle Pharr. Burnett had married his wife on an unknown date. His wife unfortunately passed away in when she was electrocuted by a shorted electric drill on April 11, 1954, at 54 years old. His two daughters lived long lives with Gladys dying in 2011 at 84 years old[4], and Patricia dying in 2015 at 83 years old.[5]
Burnett "Blondie" Pharr Tennis Center[edit]
Burnett also managed to manage the Caswell Tennis Center in Austin and helped Tennis grow in the city. Because of that and his contributions to the city, the City of Austin named one of the new Tennis Centers that the city was about to start working on after Burnett on December 11, 1975.[6] Unfortunately, Burnett never got to see the center since he died on June 18, 1976. The Burnett "Blondie" Pharr Tennis Center lasted over 40 years until it needed to be renovated. The Burnett "Blondie" Pharr Tennis Center reopened on September 16, 2023.[7]
