Carolyn Pethick[edit]

Carolyn Pethick is an Australian advocate and former police officer focused on addressing workplace bullying and discrimination. She has documented her experiences in her memoir, To Hell and Back—A Police Woman Story, which covers her life and career from the 1980s to the present.

At the age of 21, Pethick encountered sexual discrimination and bullying in the workplace, which influenced her later efforts to address these issues within the police force. She has been involved in various advocacy roles throughout her career. Today, she is a keynote speaker in Australia on bullying and discrimination, politics and the workplace, social issues, health and well-being, and positive action.

Guest Speaker Advocacy[edit]

In an interview with Channel 10[1], Carolyn spoke with Belinda Deakin, Sarah Cumming, and Narelda Jacobs. The discussion focused on workplace harassment, her experiences as a former policewoman, and her book. This interview highlighted her firsthand insights into the challenges faced by women in male-dominated fields and her efforts to bring about change.

As an inspirational speaker, Pethick continues to share her experiences and knowledge through speaking engagements, contributing to discussions on important issues, and advocating for women's empowerment. She has spoken at events organised by notable individuals, including Daniel Andrews, Premier of Victoria, and Mike Finke, Rotary President.

At a Rotary convention led by Finke, Pethick discussed her 30-year career in the police force and the prejudices faced by women, wherein she was given a Huon pine pen from John Donaghey as a thank you. Mike Finke noted that Carolyn's struggle for respect and overcoming barriers has improved conditions for women in the force today, crediting her and supportive allies for these changes.
