The Charleston–The Citadel basketball rivalry is an American college basketball rivalry between the Charleston Cougars and The Citadel Bulldogs. The two universities are separated by 1.9 miles (3.05 km) in Charleston, South Carolina, making it one of the closest crosstown rivalries in the country. The two schools faced off for the first time in 1901, and have played semi-regularly since then.[1]
History
[edit]The Charleston Cougars and The Citadel Bulldogs have met 98 times since the 1900-01 college basketball season. Charleston leads the series 58-40.[2][3][4]
The crosstown rivalry game is usually played in December, though the teams played twice annually as members of the Southern Conference from 1999-2013. The venue alternates between McAlister Field House on the campus of The Citadel and TD Arena on the campus of the College of Charleston in Downtown Charleston. In previous years, games have been played at the North Charleston Coliseum and John Kresse Arena.
