Charlotte Angugaattiaq Qamaniq is a Canadian North Baffin Inuk performance artist, actor, and contemporary and traditional throat singer from Igloolik, Nunavut. She is best known for her work in the throat singing duo Silla, in twice Juno nominated band Silla + Rise,[1] and Juno nominated Iva and Angu.[2]

In 2022, Qamaniq co-created throat singing duo Iva and Angu with Kathleen Ivaluarjuk Merritt and released their first album, Katajjausiit. The duo's name comes from names passed down to each of them through ancient Inuit naming practices, while the album's title refers to their performance of katajjausiit (throat songs) that survived colonialism in Canada.
Silla
[edit]In 2005, Qamaniq co-created the throat singing duo Silla,[5] a singing group blending divergent styles of traditional and contemporary katajjaq across a wide range of genres. The name Silla, is derived from the Inuktitut word ‘Sila’, its definition encompassing concepts of weather, the land, the spirit of the atmosphere, cunning, and intelligence. The name pays homage to the rich musical texture and nuance throat singing creates, and to the powerful spirituality and traditions that have kept it alive through both historical and modern threats posed by colonialism.
In 2015 Silla teamed up with global grooves producer Rise Ashen to create Silla + Rise. Releasing their debut album in 2016 and their second album Galactic Gala in 2019. They were mjoined by Charlotte Carleton in 2020 to create their third album Silarjuaq before disbanding after its release.
Acting career
[edit]Qamaniq debuted as an actress in Qaggiavuut’s Kiviuq Returns.[6]
In 2023, Qamaniq acted with a musical role for HBO’s True Detective: Night Country, starring Jodie Foster.
