Bhabar or Bhavar Region (Nepali: भावर) is the region that lies below the southern slope of Chure range and to the north of outer Terai. The Bhavar region, 8 to 10 miles wide, occupies 4.5 percent of the total land mass of Nepal. The forest of Bhabar Region is called Chure Forest or Char Kose Jhadi.
Bhabar is the gently-sloping coarse alluvial zone below the Chure where streams disappear into permeable sediments.This area is very dry for most of the year, except in monsoon when large, seasonal streams carry the surface run off down into the plains. The underground water level is deep in this region, then rises to the surface in the Terai below where coarse alluvium gives way to less permeable silt and clay.
