Colleen Danielle Holland[3] (born 1984) is an American lawyer from New York who is a former nominee to serve as a United States district judge of the United States District Court for the Western District of New York.

Early life and education[edit]

Holland was born in 1984[1] in Rochester, New York, and then moved to Delphi Falls, New York, where she grew up with four sisters.[4] She received a Bachelor of Arts and Science from the University of Rochester in 2006. She received a Juris Doctor, summa cum laude, from Cornell Law School in 2010,[5] graduating first in her class.[6]

Career[edit]

Holland was an associate in private practice with Nixon Peabody from 2010 to 2012; LeClairRyan, P.C. from 2012 to 2014 and Boylan Code L.L.P. from 2016 to 2017. From 2014 to 2016, she served as a law clerk for Judge Elizabeth A. Wolford of the United States District Court for the Western District of New York and for Judge Michael Anthony Telesca on the same court from 2017 to 2018. She has served as career law clerk to Judge Wolford since 2018 and as special counsel to Judge Wolford since 2021.[5]

Nomination to district court[edit]

On August 30, 2023, President Joe Biden announced his intent to nominate Holland to serve as a United States district judge of the United States District Court for the Western District of New York. On September 11, 2023, her nomination was sent to the Senate. President Biden nominated Holland to the seat vacated by Judge Frank P. Geraci Jr., who assumed senior status on April 1, 2023.[3] On January 3, 2024, her nomination was returned to the president under Rule XXXI, Paragraph 6 of the United States Senate.[7] On January 9, 2024, Holland decided to withdraw her name from consideration as a federal judge.[8]
