Death Yell is a Chilean death metal/black metal band formed in 1987. It was part of the first wave of extreme metal in the mid-80s in Latin America, along with bands like Sepultura, Mortem, Pentagram Chile and Atomic Aggressor among others, being considered a great influence within the Black metal and Death metal genres.
They broke up abruptly in 1992 and then reunited 20 years later.
History
[edit]The Beginings
[edit]Death Yell was formed in 1987 in Santiago, Chile... originally under the name Pestilence, by guitarists Andrés "Pollo" Lozano and Andrés "Pulga" Herrera, who were later joined by Patricio "Bala" Diez on drums, Alejandro "Watiu" Allende on bass and Sergio "Galleta" Arenas on vocals.
Death Yell had a short but intense life at the end of the 80s. They were a must-see name at the extreme concerts at the Sala Lautaro in Santiago, in addition to having been part of emblematic and remembered concerts in Concepción (Penco) and Valparaiso (Villa Alemana).
At that time Death Yell recorded a single demo titled "Vengeance from Darkness", which quickly became a reference and even influenced several death and black metal bands of the time, due to its brutal and unique style, mix of rabid aggressiveness and extreme speed, rawness played without complexes.
Some of these songs were later published in 7” format and CD in the USA (Seraphic Decay Records) and Europe (Turbo Music Records), which helped make the band known internationally, elevating it - after all these years - to the level of emblematic and even cult group. In 2006 the Nuclear War Now! label He re-released his demo, along with other rarities recorded live, through a double vinyl compilation called “Morbid Rites”.[1]
The Return
[edit]By the end of 2011, after a meeting of friends in which there were several members of Death Yell and Atomic Aggressor, the latter invited them to join and return to the stage.
This is how Death Yell reappeared 20 years after its dissolution in 1992 - with 4 of its original members (Galleta, Pollo, Pulga and Watiu) - recording a new song: "Back from the Depths", a title that symbolized their return and which was released as a 7" split with Atomic Aggressor in 2013 under the Hells Headbangers Records label, which received excellent comments from all over the world, showing that they had not lost their mysterious and hidden style, which gave rise for Death Yell to continue playing live.
Since then they dedicated themselves to recovering lost time and the position they deserved in the local and global metal scene. In November 2014 they played in Lima, Peru and in November 2016 the band was invited to the Nuclear War Now! Fest V in Berlin, Germany. In February 2018 they played at "Natales Metal Fest V" in Puerto Natales.
In April 2017, Death Yell released their first official full-length album, "Descent into Hell", under the Hell's Headbangers Records label, which was very well received by bangers and specialized magazines.[2][3][4][5][6]
