From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Donald McLeod (January 1, 1789-July 22, 1879) was a General during the War of 1812 and Patriot war. He was the Secretary of War of the Hunters lodge organizations. He organized several raids on British North America in attempt to overthrow British rule.

McLeod had been a Loyalist hero during the War of 1812, but switched his allegiance to the Patriot cause after the Upper Canada Rebellion. He played a major role in the Fighting Island raid and Battle of the Windmill. McLeod was also a founder of the Canadian Refugee Relief Association. He was briefly captured by the British government in 1838, and released shortly after. He worked for the Upper Canadian Government until his death in 1879.
