Dr. Thomas Winston COLE Sr.... (10/24/1915 - 7/20/2001) Dr. Cole whose dedication to education coupled with his devotion to the Methodist Church led him to high positions and farway places. His wife Eva Sharp Cole is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. Dr. Cole held the position of General President of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. Dr. Cole graduated high school at age 16 and graduated from Wiley College in Marshall Texas at age 19. After college he accepted his first job as Principal of Washington Elementary School in Bryan, Texas. He spent several summers as a professor at his almamater, Wiley. He became registrar at Wiley in the fall of 1950 and remained in that position until becoming Dean in 1952. In 1958, Cole became the 10th president of Wiley College, the first non-clergyman to do so. He served in that capacity until 1971 when he was hired as Dean of Academic Affairs at University of Florida. Cole received his masters degree from University of Winsconsin at Madison and he was the First Black Man to receive his Doctorate Degree from University of Texas at Austin. All four of their children pursued Education.Their three daughters have masters degrees and. Their son, Dr. T.W. Cole Jr.,earned his Doctors Degree by the time he was 25. He was President of Clark Atlanta University. Two daughter became english teachers Margaret Patricia Cole, in Atlanta, Reverent Jo Ann Cole - Weeks, in California and the third daughter Eva Marie Cole,was an administrator in a federal program in Atlanta.
