Harry Wild is an Irish crime drama television series produced by Acorn TV, starring Jane Seymour as Harriet "Harry" Wild, a retired literature professor with a knack for solving mysteries. The show follows Harry as she dives into the world of crime investigation after witnessing a murder, much to the dismay of her son, who happens to be a detective in the Garda Síochána (Irish national police). Harry is assisted by a high school student, Fergus, her erstwhile mugger but now her close friend and partner in investigation.[1] In Season 2 Harry and Fergus start their detective agency [2].

Plot

Season 1 explores Harry's newfound purpose as an amateur detective while navigating her strained relationship with her son, Detective Inspector Charlie Wild. With her sharp wit and literary background, Harry forms an unlikely partnership with high school student, Fergus Reid (Rohan Nedd) to solve complex crimes, at times assisted by her friend Glenn Talbot (Paul Tylak).

Rohan Nedd as Fergus Reid, a high school student assisting Harry in her investigations.

Paul Tylak as Glenn Talbot, a friend of Harry who frequents her local pub who gets pulled into Harry's investigations.

Harry Wild is co-created by David Logan and Jo Spain.

The series films in Ireland, at locations in Dublin and County Kildare.

The first season premiered on RTÉ One in April 2022 and was met with strong viewership. Due to its success, a second season and aired in 2023. A third series was commissioned and aired in 2024. The series streams on Acorn TV and BBC America.[1]

Critical Reception

Harry Wild has received positive reviews for its blend of humor, suspense, and heartwarming moments. Critics have praised Seymour's performance, with many commending her portrayal of a strong and unconventional senior character. The show's Dublin setting and exploration of contemporary Irish life have also been lauded.
