Leonard K Thomson was a Florida businessman and politician who served as the City of Miami's 22nd mayor, from 1943 to 1945.
Personal life
[edit]Thomson was born in Wisconsin and orphaned as a boy. He worked as a Western Union messenger and then studied accounting. He was manager at Miami's Everglades Hotel before becoming Mayor.[1]
Politics
[edit]In 1935 Thomson was appointed as County tax Collector by Governor David Sholtz. He was lauded for his innovative ideas but was unable to get local tax code reformed.[2]
In 1942 he filled the City Commission seat vacated by I.D. MacVicar who went to serve in WWII. He was soon chosen to be Mayor.
After his stint as Mayor, Thomson was Director of the Miami Port Authority. He also served as director of Miami International Airport before his retirement.
Thomson died in Melbourne Florida in 1975.
