Mary Amaechi is a Lecturer in the Department of Linguistics and Nigerian Languages at the University of Ilorin.[1][2] Her research focuses on the syntax and morphosyntax of Igbo.[3] She earned her PhD in 2020 from the University of Potsdam, with her dissertation examining A'-movement dependencies and their reflexes in Igbo.
Education
[edit]Mary Amaechi is a visiting researcher in the Syntax Lab as part of ARiEAL’s International Scholar Award Advanced Research in Experimental & Applied Linguistics Program.[4][5] In this role, she engage with cutting-edge research and collaborate with international scholars to advance understanding of linguistic phenomena.
She is also a lecturer in the Department of Linguistics and Nigerian Languages at the University of Ilorin,[6] Nigeria. In this capacity, she teaches a variety of courses, mentor students, and contribute to the academic community through her research and service. she received her PhD in linguistics from the University of Potsdam, Germany, in 2020, where she was trained in advanced linguistic theory and research methodologies. Before her PhD, Mary completed her MA in Linguistics at the University of Ilorin, Nigeria, in 2012. She also holds a BA (Hons.)[7] in Linguistics from the same institution, which she received in 2009.
Currently, her research project focuses on the documentation and analysis of some aspects of the syntax in Lokaa, a Cross-River language of southern Nigeria, and Osanyin, spoken in a community in north-central Nigeria. This work is vital for preserving these languages and providing comprehensive grammatical descriptions that can inform both theoretical and applied linguistic research.[8]
