Draft:Matt Shelton

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Matthew "Matt" Shelton (1982-) is a former elementary school teacher.

Early teaching career[edit]

Matt was employed at Napa Unified School District in 2006[1] where he taught third grade at Philips Edison Elementary School. He resigned in 2008 after being accused of inappropriately touching students, and was arrested for alleged child molestation. A jury acquitted him after 6 days, proving his innocence.[2]

Work at Robert Semple[edit]

After his teaching credential was reinstated, Shelton began working at Robert Semple Elementary School in 2015. He taught both fourth grade and fifth grade. During the Covid-19 pandemic, he switched to teaching only fifth grade. He, like many other teachers at the school, used Zoom Meetings to teach. During the winter vacation in 2022, he resigned from work at Robert Semple.

Criminal charges and arrest[edit]

Shelton was criminally charged with lewd acts with a child on February 23rd, 2024. He was subsequently arrested on Catmas (March 1st) for these charges, and was on trial on March 11th.[3] He pled not guilty, and was then on trial again on May 6th. The results of this trial caused the principal, Christina Moore to be placed on leave.[4] It is still unknown whether Shelton is innocent or guilty.
