Mobin Karimi, M.D., Ph.D.

Dr. Karimi is a Professor (tenure track) in Microbiology and Immunology at the SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, NY. Originally from Ghazni, Afghanistan, where he was born and raised, his foray into the world of immunology commenced at Stanford University under the guidance of Dr. Negrin. His research during this period concentrated on examining the role of human cytokine-induced killer cells in targeting tumor cells through NKG2D receptors.

Dr. Karimi was awarded a Ph.D. from the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 2013, where he conducted my doctoral studies under Dr. Cynthia Baldwin. These studies refined his expertise, particularly in developmental biology and immunology. In 2012, he joined Dr. Kambayashi’s laboratory at the University of Pennsylvania as a postdoctoral fellow. His research focused on investigating T-cell signaling and its implications for allogeneic transplantation. Dr. Karimi became as established his credentials as an independent investigator at SUNY Upstate. Since founding his laboratory in 2017, His research has been dedicated to exploring intracellular signaling alterations in T cell function. We place a particular emphasis on the roles of TCR signaling, T cell factor 1, Eomes, and T-bet within clinically relevant models
