My Green Doctor is an online practice management and education program launched by the Florida Medical Association (FMA) in 2010.
Overview
[edit]In 2001, the Florida Medical Association (FMA) established the Environment & Health Section to explore the impact of the natural environment on public health. The My Green Doctor program was launched by the FMA on Earth Day in 2010, by Dr. Todd L. Sack, the Section Chairperson. It was created to provide healthcare professionals with tools and resources to implement environmental sustainability and climate change preparedness in their practices.[1][2][3][4][5]
The program's resources and educational materials cover topics such as energy conservation, waste management, chemical safety, renewable energy integration, sustainable purchasing, and promoting healthy lifestyles. The program emphasizes practical implementation, providing step-by-step guidance and tools for integrating environmental sustainability into daily operations.[6][7][8][9][10]
It operates as a non-profit service owned by the FMA and is managed by the My Green Doctor Foundation, a 501(c)3 charitable organization established in 2021. The My Green Doctor Foundation is headquartered in Jacksonville Beach, Florida.[11]
In December 2021, My Green Doctor introduced a series of educational brochures titled "Your Healthy Home," providing information on various environmental health topics to patients and families.[12]
As of January 2024, twenty-nine health professional societies participate in My Green Doctor and offer My Green Doctor as a free membership, distributing health practice management resources and educational materials to healthcare professionals and patients.[13]
The program is accessible through its main website in English and the recently launched Spanish language version.
