  History of Margam Origin of Marthoma Nasrani Marthoma Sleeha arrived in the land of Malankara in AD 52 and preached the Margam to the Jews of Malankara. Among them our ancestors accepted and established the Margam in Malankara. Thus, Nasranis of Malankara is formed. Early Period Marthoma Sleeha established seven and a half churches in the land of Malankara and they are 1. Kodungallur 2. Palayur 3. Kottakavu 4. Kokkamangalam 5. Nilakkal 6. Niranam 7. Kollam And the thiruvithamkode Arapally. The Nasranis of Malankara followed the Laws of Margam and lived as a separate caste in the land of Malankara. They were very few in number but by giving Margam God was protected them from their enemies. Death of Marthoma Sleeha MarthomaSleeha was killed by brahmins in AD 72 in Mylapore and the entire Malankara mourned for him. Thus, Mar Thoma Sleeha gave up his life for Margam Arrival of Knanayas from Sasassin Persia During the reign of Shapur II Christians in the Sasassin empire were severely persecuted which culminated in the beheading of Shimun Bar Sabbe in AD 345. These Persian Christians were persecuted for leaving Zoroastrianism. Some of the Christians in the empire converted back to Zoroastrianism, where as some others flood the empire. During this period refugees from the Sassasin empire reached the shores of Malankara around AD 345 and they were welcomed by the rulers of Malankara. Moreover, Hindu kings allowed this foreign Christians to settle in Malankara. Thus is the origin of Knanayas or Thekkumbagakar. Arrival of Mar Sabor and Prodh Mar Sabor and Mar Proth arrived in Kollam with the help of the merchant Sabir Isoin 823 AD. They have helped Nasranis in attaining the copper plates which granted Nasranis privelages in socio- economic life. Portugeese persecution of Nasranis Initially, portugeese were friendly to the Nasranis and we made an alliance with portugeese . After the death of mar Jacob schism in Iraq helped portugeese to take control over our church. This is the point were we lost our autonomy. In 1599, at the synod of Diamper we effectively came under Latin rule. Origin of Dalit Christians Starting from 18th century many Dalit Hindus converted to saint Thomas Christian denominations for material benefits. This newly converted Dalits Christians and Nasranis attended masses together. However, these two communities which are entirely different was never able to work together for common goals. Thus created an identity crisis in both the commmunties. Dalit Christians should be organized under a new Archi-Eparchy structurally similar to Knanaya Archi-Eparchy of Kottayam. Decline of Margam in Malankara 1. converts entering the Syro Malabar Church created identity crisis among the Nasrani people. 2. Lack of Faith 3. Over attachment to political sides 4. Women became breadwinners and men became alcoholics 5. Inter-religious and inter-caste marriages 6. Loss of Identity because of not learning our history and Laws of Margam 7. Males married non- Nasrani women which destroyed our Margam Western Migration Due to the collapse of rubber prices and emergence of muslims in trade and ezahavas and Thiyyas in politics forced the Nasranis to move away from the land of Malankara. The favourite destinations where, USA,UK,Australia, Canada, Italy and other western countries. Most of the educated and skillful Nasranis have already migrated from Kerala. Those who are still staying in Kerala Syro Malabar Church are mainly 1. Dalit Christian Families 2. Inter-caste Families 3. Poor Families 4. Those with Criminal Background 5. Uneducated or Lazy 6. Those with genetic diseases and chronic illness Considering these factors Nasrani Diaspora should avoid marrying from Kerala. Laws of Margam Saint Thomas gave laws to our ancestors and it passed down to us orally. Forgetting the laws resulted in exile of our people from the land of Malankara. As our people are in exile today it is necessary to write this oral laws. Below given are the laws of Margam Laws of Marriage 1. If your Mother is a Nasrani you are a Nasrani, if your mother is not a Nasrani you are not a Nasrani 2. Don’t marry someone who is not a Nasrani 3. Don’t marry someone who is illiterate 4. A Groom should always make sure that brides female ancestors on maternal side are Nasrani and at least 5 generations should be examined. Laws of Personal Life 1. Don’t use any addictive substance like Alcohol, drugs, digital games, addictive texts and so on 2. Don’t take decisions based on peer pressure 3. Don’t overspend money 4. Don’t pass a day without learning or reading something 5. Don’t think, speak and act anything negative 6. Don’t touch another human if not necessary 7. Don’t separate yourself from the community 8. Any means of birth control is a sin equal to murder 9. You should do some skilled work like a teacher for a livelihood 10. Visit the Land of Malankara at least once in your lifetime 11. Teach your children Malayalam language 12. Learn the Margam and teach the Margam to Children 13. Give charity to the poor 14. Build your home near the church 15. Build your home near another Nasrani family 16. A husband should lead wife 17. A mother should lead children 18. The primary duty of a women is looking after her children Laws of Education 1. Educate the children on their way not your way 2. Education should be based on reasoning and critical thinking and must be research oriented 3. Everyone needs a mentor because no one is objective of himself 4. A girl should be educated so that she can guide her children 5. A boy should be educated so that he will be successful in his business Laws of Genders 1. Males and females are asymmetrical and unequal by nature 2. A husband should lead a wife and a wife should follow her husband 3. A husband should take decisions prioritizing children first, wife second, parents third and himself last. 4. A Female is considered to follower of Margam if her children are successful 5. A Male is considered follower of Margam if he is successful Laws of mind 1. Every action starts from our thought. if you have control of your thoughts, you have control of your actions 2. Abort every bad thought when you realize it is a bad thought Laws of State 1. Name of our homeland is Malanakara and our eternal capital is the ancient city of Kodungallur 2. Our language is Malayalam which is written in Syriac Script also known as Karshoni or Suriyani-Malayalam 3. We need a host country and a host church 4. We should not try to create separate state for our people. 5. We should not enter into conflict with other castes in Malankara 6. We should not rule Malankara or any other country 7. We should always support the rulers of Malankara 8. We should not wander around host countries too much 9. We should be connected with Catholic church 10. We should never be over dependent on the Catholic church 11. We should not convert other people Laws of Food 1. Vegetarian food is the most ideal food 2. Do not eat meat more than once in a week 3. Keep all the fasting of our ancestors (Noyambu) Laws of Sunday 1. Do not work from Saturday sunset to Sunday sunset 2. Do not use electronic devices for the same period 3. Switch off Mobile phones , tablets, laptops, Television during the same period 4. Do not use vehicles to go to the church. Laws of Castes 1. Nasrani - Any child born to a Nasrani mother is a Nasrani, the caste of the father is not relevant. 2. Knanaya - Knanayas are those born to Knanaya father and a Knanaya mother 3. Converts for Marriage - Marriage Converts are those born to a Nasrani father and a non-Nasrani mother as a result of an inter-caste Marriage. 4. Dalit Converts – Dalit Converts are those who have converted from Hinduism to escape caste discrimination in Hinduism. 5. Only a Nasrani should come in the leadership of the church and the community. 6. All the above 4 castes should marry within their respective castes. 7. If there is a mixed marriage between them, the children should be considered according to the mother's caste Laws of Business 1. Every decision should be implemented fast 2. A Nasrani can lie for getting a business deal if required 3. A Nasrani should not do anything illegal 4. Non-Nasranis can be used for improving the business 5. A business should make you rich Laws of Nasrani Sangam 1. Nasrani Sangam should be established to spread Margam among Nasranis. 2. Nasrani Sangam should operate in Churches, schools, colleges , government offices, political parties and every other place possible 3. Nasrani Sangam should do lobbying to achieve goals 4. Nasrani Sangam should work actively to create separate bodies for non-Narsanis in our churches, institutions, family unions, religious organizations, Sunday schools and so on.

Laws of Nasrani Diaspora 1. Nasrani Diaspora should stay as a one people 2. Nasrani Diaspora should marry someone from Nasrani Diaspora 3. Most members of Syro-Malabar church inside Kerala are not Nasrani and marriage with them should be avoided Laws of Study 1. Nasranis should be proud of their jewish heritage 2. Nasranis should denounce Nestorian and Latin Corruptions in our culture 3. Narsanis should study Torah, Mishnah ,Talmud, Zohar ,Tanya and all the works of great Rabbis. 4. Nasranis should try to bridge the gap between Torah and new testment Laws of Duties 1. Nasranis should engage in study and other intellectual pursuits to protect the Margam 2. Knanayas should physically protect the Margam. It is the duty of the Knanaya to fight and die for the Margam if required. That is the reason why knanayas are called “royal-blood” 3. Marriage Converts and their descendents should engage in trade and business for protecting the Margam 4. Dalit Converts are capable of doing physical tasks in service of the Margam
