He was also an integral part of the rise of the Middle East Rally Championship and has handled press and publicity for select events in the series since 1990.

A contributor to the Rallycourse annual for several years, he also co-wrote Stage by Stage[3], the story of two-time British Rally Champion Russell Brookes, that was published by Motor Racing Publications (MRP) Ltd. in 1991.

A long-term member of the Midland Group of Motoring Writers (MGMW)[4], he was appointed editor of Rally Sport magazine in 1996 and edited the monthly magazine for three years until A&S Publishing sold the title to Link House Publishing in 1999.

He managed and promoted the Škoda Trophy one-make rally championship for Škoda GB Limited [5] for two seasons before moving into the world of cross-country rallying, the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) and the Dakar Rally[6] at the start of 2000.

Perkins worked for the Amaury Sport Organisation (A.S.O.), Nissan Motors Europe N.V., X-raid BMW and Mitsubishi Motors on the African Dakars between 2000 and 2007 and then joined forces with Mitsubishi, X-Raid Mini and Toyota when the event moved to South America and then to Saudi Arabia.

The official English content writer for event organisers on rounds of the WRC in Cyprus, Poland, México, Chile, Portugal, Spain, Turkey and Jordan and FIA off-road events in Jordan, Kazakhstan, Saudi Arabia and the UAE, he became involved in the world of international powerboat racing and handled the global media content for the Qatar Marine Sports Federation [7] (2003-2015) and the Abu Dhabi International Marine Sports Club (ADIMSC) in Class 1 Offshore, XCAT, F1H2O, F2, F4-S and H1 Unlimited racing for several years.

He is also a content writer for the FIA, FIM and H2O Racing, the official promotor of the Formula 1 Powerboat World Championship and the Aquabike World Championship.

Perkins is divorced and lives in Newport, Shropshire. [8]

He has a small collection of classic cars and has a life-long passion for Ipswich Town F.C. and coarse fishing on the River Severn in Shropshire [9], the Ebro River in Spain [10] and a local carp syndicate he has run since 2010.
