Venerable Nestor of Dečani (often called Nestor Dečanski and in Serbian Нестор от Дечани) was a Serbian saint who lived in the 16th century. He is celebrated on 11 November (Julian Calendar) or 24 November (Gregorian Calendar).
Historical remains
[edit]In 1564/1565, priest-monk Nikodim made a large cross in yew wood on the order of Venerable Nestor Dečanski. In addition to the liturgical texts about the meaning and spiritual power of the cross, an inscription was engraved: "This holy and divine cross was written in the summer of 1564-1565, by the blessing of the elder Nestor and his brothers, may God forgive them on the day of judgment, amen."
Venerable Nestor of Dečanski is mentioned in the General verse to Serbian saints.
The Serbian Orthodox Church celebrates his day on 11/24 November.
Life
[edit]Two years after the construction of the large cross was completed, on 25 June 1567, the construction and painting of the church in Brezovica, near Plavo, was completed, in which the venerable hieromonk Nestor Dečanski and his brotherhood participated.
Venerable Nestor Dečanski is often mentioned as an old man of the Belay Desert. The exact year of his death is not known.
