Overview[1]

[edit]

Opal Collection refers to a premier assortment of luxury hotels and resorts that are collectively marketed together. Set in highly sought-after waterside destinations in the eastern United States, the collection of 26 properties are based in the regions of the Adirondacks of New York, the New England coast (Maine and New Hampshire), and down to southern Florida on both the east and west coasts, as well as the Keys.

The hotels and resorts range in size and style, from a 30-room Adirondack-rustic luxury lodge on Lake Placid, New York, to an iconic 230-room resort that sprawls multiple beachfront acres in Longboat Key, Florida. Guests are commonly frequent leisure travelers who expect a high level of hospitality and luxury. For them, the Opal experience translates to on-site culinary excellence, spa, and other amenities (beach access, golf, tennis, and more). Opal guests are also commonly interested in experiential travel, looking for ways to dive deep into the culture, history, and environment of the larger destination beyond the hotel or resort’s walls. Opal’s concierges can help maximize these experiences. This is why Opal properties have received high traveler ratings and numerous industry awards.[2]

Profile

[edit]

While all Opal properties feature the same core luxury hallmarks – upscale accommodations, signature hospitality, top-notch food and beverage, and easy access to waterside attractions[3] – each property has their own distinct qualities that make each individually unique. Like opal gemstones are known for their dazzling display of sparkling colors – but still always unique and never exactly alike – so too is Opal Collection with its properties and locations. All properties are based in waterside locales, yet each of these destinations have their own unique charm, activities, and culture. That means guests can travel within Opal Collection and always encounter the same high-quality service, but their experience is always new and fresh, never stale.[4]

History

[edit]

Opal Collection was first established in 2013[5] by the late Thomas T. Walsh, a proud New Englander with a profound legacy in hospitality[6]. Walsh first started developing hotels back in 1969[7], thus his extensive experience laid the foundation for Opal Collection to become a premier collection of luxury properties. His dedication to maximizing guests’ enjoyment of his properties lives on today. The Opal Collection remains a family-owned business, operated by Walsh’s four sons and daughter.

Services & Amenities[8]

[edit]

Opal Collection is known for its high standards of service and an array of amenities designed to provide a luxurious experience for its guests. Common features across the properties include:

Dining [9]

[edit]

Opal Collection offers a wide selection of on-site dining outlets across the portfolio. That includes everything from breezy pool bars serving light bites and tropical drinks to full-service restaurants specializing in all-day dining. Several signature restaurants – like Latitudes[10], Drift[11], La Bella Vita[12], and BRGR Kitchen & Bar [13]– have become guest favorites and, therefore, are featured in multiple properties. There are also one-off marquee restaurants, too, including Wentworth by the Sea’s Salt Kitchen & Bar, Opal Sands Resort’s Sea-Guini, Lake Placid Lodge’s Artisans, and more. Many of the resorts are also home to Beach Market Cafes, offering grab-and-go options like smoothies, acai bowls, and fresh treats to fuel a guest’s day.

Opal Spas [14]

[edit]

Thirteen Opal resorts offer access to on-site (or nearby) Opal Spas. These full-service retreats are dedicated to crafting the ultimate wellness experience with treatment menus that center around the holistic healing of Kerstin Florian products and relaxing spaces that employ biophilic design. All Opal Spas utilize custom-made treatment tables featuring built-in vibrational and sound therapy systems that soothe the senses and lull the body into deep relaxation. Treatments range from HydraFacial and intensive eye treatments to full-body wraps and massages.

Recreational Activities

[edit]

In addition to the cultural attractions, museums, and shopping opportunities available in each destination, all Opal resorts and hotels provide an extensive array of on-site activities and amenities. That includes impressive pools and beaches, gyms and fitness offerings, watersports and rentals, and other special programming (cooking classes, private boat tours, exclusive dining experiences, and more). On-site concierges are available to help secure reservations and provide recommendations.[15]

Event & Meeting Spaces [16]

[edit]

Whether planning a destination wedding[17], a corporate retreat, or social gathering, Opal Collection properties offer event and function capabilities to ensure a memorable and successful occasion. Guests can expect versatile event venues, professional planning services, exquisite catering, and scenic surroundings to bring any event to new heights.[18]

Awards & Recognition[19]

[edit]

Properties within the Opal Collection portfolio regularly garner awards and recognition from local and regional media outlets, as well as major national and international travel publications, like Travel & Leisure[20], USA Today[21], and Condé Nast Traveler[22]. Awards titles earned include “top hotels” or “top resorts” on a state, regional, national, and even global level. The collection maintains a running list of all awards on its hotel press page.
