From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ancient Koliya Nagar (Presently Panditpur), the capital of the ancient Koliya Republic, is situated approximately 11 km south of Sunwal Jyamire on the East-West Highway. Falling within the Ramgram Municipality of Nawalparasi, it is 8 km north of the Bhairahawa Bhumhi highway. To the east lies the Rohini River, to the south stretches the Chure Range, and to the west flows the Narayani River. Notably, the ancient Mauryan kingdom of Pipliban, now in India, was once part of the Koliya Republic.

The Koliyan princess Mayadevi, married to Sakya prince Suddhodhana, gave birth to Siddhartha Gautama in the Lumbini forest while en route to her beloved capital, Koliya Nagar (Presently Panditpur). The Archaeology Department designates this location as the Koliyan capital, and excavations have verified its contemporaneity with 700 BC, aligning it with the Shakyan Kingdom of Kapilbastu.
