Prabalini Prabakaran anis the first Sri Lankan Tamil female music director. Her debut album, "Sangeetha Samrajyam," was released in 1995. Prabalini is a composer, singer, lyricist, arranger, producer and a actress. In 1995, she collaborated with her father, M.P. Paramesh, and mother, Mrs. Sivamalini Paramesh, to compose and release "Sangeetha Samrajyam." This album was distributed in Germany, France, Switzerland, the U.K., Denmark, the Netherlands, Sri Lanka and India.

Early life and background[edit]

Prabalini was born in Srilanka, as daughter of “Eelaththu Mellissai Mannan” M.P.Paramesh, who composed and released the first Tamil record in Sri-Lanka in 1968 and sangeetha Pushana Mrs. Sivamalini Paramesh, who was graduated in carnatic music in Tamil Nadu (Annamalai University Chithamparam) India, Prabalini started to sing when she was 4 years old. She learned carnatic music from her mother and like her father she is a composer, lyricist, singer and producer.

After several stages shows in all over Sri-Lanka with her parents, Prabalini fled with her family to Germany in 1986 because of war in Srilanka.

Prabalini’s gurus are her father “Eelaththu Mellissai Mannar” M.P.Paramesh and mother “Sangeetha Pushana” Malini Paramesh.

Prabalini studied in Germany International Business and Trading and specialized her knowledge in medical equipments and health insurance social care system and herbal medical medicines. With advanced education she gained knowledge in Real Estates marketing and owned businesses in Germany. She is a sworn interpreter for the German courts and police for German and Tamil languages. She passed her MBA Evaluation in USA in 2009.

Prabalini is married to Prabakaran, a mathematician and software engineer – programmer in USA. He is a Guitarist, a Tabla player and a Sound Engineer. He helps Prabalini in all her steps as a good friend and a wonderful husband. Their sons Krish and Karthik are priority no.1 for Prabalini as a mother. Prabalini has 5 siblings. Her sister Priyanthini Sanjeev is a wonderful singer and a dancer. Her Brother Gajanesh is a Keyboardist and a composer.

Career[edit]

Prabalini worked with several short film producers and composed for documentations and Jingles for advertisements. She worked as a host for video magazines like Tamil Aruvi, Tamil Thagam, Kalai Villakku and other productions like Ilaignan and Thamilar Kaaviyam. She has sung songs in Eelathamilar Films like “ Moham ” and few others which were filmed in Europe. She also sung for devotional albums under other music directors. With her own company “United Studios” she started to produce documentations and short films. With her own Label “Rhythms Records” she is producing music tracks.


In 1995, Prabalini Prabakaran's debut album "Sangeetha Samrajyam" was released, marking a significant milestone in her career. This album was released in Germany, France, Swiss, U.K., Denmark, Netherlands and Srilanka. With this album she was the first Srilankan Tamil woman who composed and released a music album in CD format. After several stage shows and contests in all over Europe and Canada she was honored and awarded in 1996 by the Tamil mandram of Germany Frankfurt (by Kalaikavalar Mr. Sripathy Sivanadian) as “ Eelaththu Mellissai Kuyil”.

Prabalini's musical journey expanded further when she immigrated to Germany with her family in 1986. There, she continued to mesmerize audiences, performing with various musical groups and earning accolades for her exceptional talent. In addition to her stage performances, Prabalini's contributions to the music industry extend to film and commercials. She has composed music for short films and advertisements in multiple languages, showcasing her versatility as a composer. Her crowning achievement came with the release of her album "Queen Cobra," which garnered international acclaim. The album, produced by California's Rhythms Records, earned her the prestigious Special Jury Edison Award in India, a groundbreaking feat for a Sri Lankan Tamil woman in the music industry.

Stage performances[edit]

"Sangeetha Samrajyam" was not just an album; it was a testament to Prabalini's musical prowess and innovation. Its release earned Prabalini the esteemed distinction of being Sri Lanka's first female music composer, a title that solidified her place in the country's music history. Following the release of her debut album, Prabalini embarked on a prolific period of stage performances, captivating audiences across continents. Between 1996 and 1999, she graced over 150 stages, showcasing her talent as a lead singer in various musical groups in both English and German. Throughout her career, Prabalini's performances have transcended borders, captivating audiences across continents. From Sri Lanka to Europe and America, she has graced stages with her enchanting vocals and mesmerizing compositions.

Back in Sri Lanka, Prabalini's talent continued to shine as she performed on over 200 stages between 1979 and 1984. In Europe, Prabalini joined various musical groups from 1987 to 1993, captivating audiences in countries such as Germany, the Netherlands, Swiss, Luxemburg, France, Denmark, and the UK. She performed alongside renowned artists, including Anthony dhas, Krish, Shrikanth Deva, Deepan Chakravarty, and Gangai Amaran, among others.

Additional works[edit]

One of her recent compositions, "Poi Vaarom Thaaye," features the legendary singer Mr. Shrinivas. The collaboration between Prabalini and Mr. Shrinivas has garnered significant attention, particularly among the Sri Lankan diaspora. With Mr. Shrinivas's iconic vocals and Prabalini's masterful composition, "Poi Vaarom Thaaye" has resonated deeply with audiences, becoming a massive hit within the Sri Lankan community worldwide.

In addition to her collaboration with Mr. Shrinivas, Prabalini achieved another milestone with the release of her music video album titled "Aathangara Orathila" in February 2024. This album captivated audiences on various platforms, including YouTube, where it amassed over 1 million views. The overwhelming response to "Aathangara Orathila" not only reaffirmed Prabalini's popularity but also showcased her ability to connect with audiences through captivating visuals and soul-stirring music

Personal life[edit]

Hailing from Sri Lanka, Prabalini's musical roots trace back to her father, “Eelathu Mellissai Mannar” M.P. Paramesh, a pioneering Tamil music composer who released Sri Lanka's first Tamil music record in 1968. Her mother, Malini Paramesh, a Carnatic music graduate from Annamalai university- Chithamparam- India, further nurtured Prabalini's musical inclinations. With such influential figures in her family, Prabalini's destiny as a musician seemed inevitable.

Prabalini's musical prowess manifested early in her life, with her debut on stage at the tender age of four. Under her mother's tutelage, she learned Carnatic music, while her father impart her future successes.
