Robert A. Chahine (born 1942) is an American-Lebanese Academic,cardiologist and political activist, mostly known for his work on the delineation and treatment of coronary artery spasm, unstable angina and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy..
Early Life and Education
[edit]Robert A. Chahine was born in Beirut, Lebanon. His father, Antoine Chahine (Arabic:انطون شاهين)[13], was a Lebanese-Colombian businessman and banker.
Chahine completed his medical doctor degree from the American University of Beirut[14] and went on to complete post-doctoral fellowships at the University of Miami[15], Harvard Medical School[16], Baylor College of Medicine[17] and UCLA[18]
Medical Career
[edit]Chahine's contributions to the field of cardiovascular disease are mostly known for his work on the delineation and treatment of coronary artery spasm, unstable angina[19] and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy..[20][21]
He was dean of the faculty of Medical Sciences at the Lebanese University between 1996 and 1999.[22]
He has taught at the UCLA[23] School of Medicine and Baylor College of Medicine, where he tenured a full professorship.
He was chief of cardiology at the VAMC in Houston[24] and the University of Miami VAMC.[25][26]
Social and Political Activism
[edit]Chahine founded the American Lebanese Foundation[27][28][29] and was its president from 2004 to 2019.
Marriage
[edit]Chahine is married to Colombian American Ms. Martha Rodriguez.
Recognition
[edit]He has qualified for fellowship of the American College of Cardiology[30] and the American College of Physicians, and has been elected as fellow at the American Association for the Advancement of Science,[31] and the Council on Circulation and the Council on Clinical Cardiology of the American Heart Association.[32]
Chahine has an endowed scholarship in his name at the American University of Beirut. [14]
