Süyür (written 'Suyur' in English) is a Turkish given surname which can be defined as the "Grateful and Courageous Nomads"

The given name "Süyür" derives from several separate words including "Shukr" ^[1] in Arabic which means "Gratitude to the Divine" and the term "Yür" which denotes 'To Move/Walk' in Turkish and "Courage" in proto-Turkic ^[2].

The surname was subsequently ordained to the several nomadic Turkic tribes who migrated from Central Asia to West Asia and the Middle East over the course of 1st Millennium BC and the 1st and 2nd Millennium AD.

Majority of the "Süyür" family members identify themselves as Kurdish people that speak Kurmanji, given that the tribes are fundamentally multiracial with backgrounds from Europe, India, Arab peninsula and Africa. This would come as a result of travelling and living within Persia and the subsequent Middle Eastern empires and kingdoms during the course of their migration.

It is believed that their ancestors date back to early civilisation periods including Sumer, Akkadian, Babylon and Achaemenid Empires.
