Sean Rodriguez (born May 1, 1994) is an American Christian singer/ songwriter and spoken word artist from Mile High City in Denver, Colorado. Best known for the single "Center Stage," which has been streamed more than 2.5 million times, he appeared on Winter Jam Tour 2023[1] and has opened for Michael W. Smith, for KING & COUNTRY, KB and Cain.[2]
In 2023, Rodriguez won the "Next Best Thing" award at the 11th Annual We Love Christian Music Awards.[3]
Early life
[edit]Born as Sean William Rodriguez, Rodriguez grew up at Praise Center Church in Denver, Colorado which was planted by his grandfather, William A Rodriguez.[4] He listened to Toby Mac, Family Force 5 and T-Bone while learning to rap and hip hop dance.[5] He became a children's ministry and youth leader, later becoming the Next Gen Pastor at Praise Center Church. He moved to Franklin, Tennessee in 2022. [6]
Career
[edit]Rodriguez created the moniker Sean BE in 2015, and used this to release music until 2024, when he returned to his birth name to honor his evangelist grandfather.[7] [8][9]
In 2019, Rodriguez released "Jericho", a collaboration with Transform, which peaked at #1 on Christian Music Weekly's rhythmic chart for 13 consecutive weeks. His debut EP To Come This Far, was released independently on 24 July, 2020.[10]
The single "Here Tonight" was produced by Gregatron and released on April 30, 2021.[11]The song made the 20 CHR and Top 5 Rhythmic Charts.[12]
Rodriguez was signed to WieRok Entertainment in 2021.[13] And his EP To Come This Far was re-released by his new label.[14]
Rodriguez worked with Dove Award winner Tony Wood (Michael W. Smith, for KING & COUNTRY, Matthew West) to cowrite his next single, "Step Into My Story".[15] Relocating to Nashville, TN in 2022, he appeared at Lifest, HopeFest, Elevation Fest and FaithFest.
In October 2022, Rodriguez collaborated with artist Madeline Garcia on the holiday single, "Loudest Sound (On A Silent Night)".It reached #7 on CMW's Top Christmas Radio chart.[16]His next single, "Center Stage" was written with Wood, and produced by Kyle Williams (WeAreMessengers). [17] The song reached #6 on the Christian Contemporary Hit Radio Charts. As of August 2024, the song has more than 2.5 million streams across platforms.[18]
In January 2023, Rodriguez joined Winter Jam Tour, and appeared as a featured artist at 40 dates across the United States.[1] A music video for Center Stage was filmed on Winter Jam Tour.[19]
Rodriguez's single "Count It All Joy" was released on March 24, 2023. It appeared on Spotify's New Music Friday Christian playlist.[20]
Rebranding to the stage name Sean Rodriguez in January 2024, Rodriguez released the single, "The Unbelievable."[21]
The EP Jesus Will was released in July 2024.[22] He title track was inspired by a phone call in November 2023, when he learned his aunty had unexpectedly passed away.[23]
Personal life
[edit]According to Nashville Christian Living Magazine, Rodriguez married Marina Rodriguez in Denver, Colorado in 2018. They announced the birth of their daughter Angelina Rae in 2020 through Sean's VLOG BE REEL.[24]
In the media
[edit]Rodriguez's song, "More Than A Conqueror" will appear in the film, The Good Fight, starring John Schneider and produced by James Holley which includes an appearance by hip hop artist Steven Malcolm. [25] He appeared on the April 2023 cover of the Nashville Christian Family magazine with his wife Marina, and daughter Angelina Rae.[26]
