. It is believed that the temple was established by the ruler called Nandana Heggade by the advise of Shri Shankaracharya Mutt Sringeri prior to 1300 A.D. Hence it is Grama Devathe (village deity) , but its devotees where displaced (due to some works because it was near a port) , and setteled in krishnapura , katipalla , surathkal .
